Ongoing art project- needs some new participants!

The uterus is a womb with a view - of earth and spirit, sea and sky. It is our common ancestral space from which we emerged in our own uniqueness. The uterus was our first earthbound home and will be the home of others for generations to come. It rests in the space below heart; supporting and nurturing our heritage, contribution, and often our legacy.

The above text is directly from a comment left on the Facebook page for The Uterus Flag Project.

I've been re energized to re-ignite this project from a few students who are researching about feminism and craftivism.
The Uterus Flag Project is an ongoing art project incorporating the theory of craftivism. This project includes social justice (concerns about women’s health issues), social practice (making meaning through the use of fiber arts), art history (addressing feminism and fiber arts/crafts in the 70’s), and collaboration (participation in a living project).

All  creative ideas are shared, whether intentionally or not.
As I was developing my social justice, feminist fiber, craftivism project so are others around the world.

Embracing a New Generation

It has been a long time since I have posted on this site.
I have been pre occupied with my baby granddaughter.
Having a baby woman enter into my life has caused me to reflect about women issues.

I selected this selfie picture to manipulate into a work of art because I am fascinated with the deep wrinkles on my neck and face and the remarkable difference between the aged and the young. I'm at the end of my journey, and she is just beginning.

I included the quotes in English and Swedish, since I am working towards entering this into a show with a group of women artists from Sweden.

I'm very much an advocate for women and women's health concerns.

Notice the tiny uterus under my name?

East Coast Sit and Stitch, August 6, 2015

The Uterus Flag Project has an extension to this group of artists: http://feministfiberart.com/
Today is the first east coast Sit and Stitch facilitated by Iris. I'm not there! I'm finding creative ways to expand the project, and involve more through social networking. I wish them well today, and I'm looking forward to hearing what happens, and pictures to post of the event.

#88- Haute Trash designer

Look at the detail on this small flag! This is done by a designer who knows her media. It's been years since I first gave this blank flag to her, and I just received it. It is definitely worth the wait.

" I applaud the effort to begin this conversation. So many women do not get the full picture, all the options and the list of possible outcome when they make their decision to proceed with a hysterectomy."

Creating awareness-MomsRising

Today I am reflecting on The Uterus Flag Project. I started raising social consciousness about the uterus in 2010 when I hosted the first Sit and Stitch, at The Velvet Uterus.
Today I am encouraged by the vitality of women who are creating an awareness for women.
One of these organizations is MomsRising. http://www.momsrising.org/
